Come Follow Me Bulletin

I have had a lot of people like our family's Come Follow Me Board and ask for details so I thought I would share.

I am using resources from one of my friend's blogs: Saving Talents

I used these adorable printables from the Red Headed Hostess

Each week I go through and print the weekly devotionals from Saving Talents and then pin them on the bulletin board. The green squares to the right of Christ, will allow us to write down any family goals, favorite scriptures, or a scripture we want to memorize. Last week, we all memorized Luke 1: 39.

We don't always do the journal entries, activities, or even song but we have the option if we have extra time. We  go over these scriptures and questions during dinner and so far it has been going really well.

For this next weeks, devotionals click this link to download the formatted Saving Talents devotionals.

Great to be 8 Invites

Great to be 8 is coming up in Primary. I wasn't finding any invitations that I love so I decided to make my own and I really like how the turned out.

I love the Baptism song "When I am Baptized." It talks about looking for rainbows so I thought it would be fun to go off the rainbow theme.

Primary Song Memory Game

Now that my daughter is getting older, I have been wanting to come up with good Sunday activities to help her better distinguish Sundays verse other days. She loves the game Memory so I thought a Primary Song Memory game would be fun. So far she is loving it.

Print the attachments on cardstock and then glue to cute scrapbook paper. Try to choose scrapbook paper that won't make matches obvious. I chose a pattern that had shapes that were random.

General Conference Memory & FHE Lesson

General Conference is this weekend!  We always try to make the FHE before General Conference about the First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles.  Last year in The Friend magazine (Sept. 2014 issue) they had a fun activity with Special Witness cards.  We made a memory game with just all the faces printed and laminated them.

My kids had a lot of fun playing with them for FHE and later during General Conference.  They loved finding the face of who was speaking. Elder Christofferson quickly became the favorite match because my kids are convinced that he's from the Disney movie Frozen.

This year I used the same cut-outs again, but to switch things up a bit and since it is Easter, for our memory game the matches were in plastic Easter eggs; instead of just the pictures, we had the one picture and made the match to the picture be fun facts about each person.

You can do this whichever way is best for your family.  If you want to just put picture matches in the eggs, you can do that.  You can also color coordinate the eggs for young kids who don't quite understand memory yet.  To make it more of a challenge you can get eggs of all the same color, etc.  Do it whichever way works best for your situation.  I just did a bunch of random colors.

I put the eggs in egg cartons so they wouldn't roll around so much.  I plan on letting my kids use these during General Conference this weekend.

This time, we also added that whenever a match is made we read a quote from that person's conference talk from October.  I put together a list of my favorites, but you can definitely use your own.

I love doing lessons like this.  They really get my kids excited about conference.  I love that the First Presidency and Apostles are becoming more familiar to them and they know their names.

Materials:
Special Witness Cards from The Friend Magazine (decide if you want the match to be the face and facts or just faces.)
30 plastic Easter eggs
Empty egg cartons, optional.
Quotes from each member of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve (you can use mine, or pick your favorites!)

Strengthening the Family FHE

Monday night is the favorite night of the week at our house!  If you need an idea for a lesson tonight, try this fun one that my husband did a couple of weeks ago.  Jeff gets all the credit for this family home evening idea! This was a hit with our kids and they are still asking to go on the "special hunt" again.

LESSON OUTLINE:
-There are eight clues and eight scriptures/quotes to go with each clue
-Have someone hide the clues before the start of the lesson.(The free PDF is at the end of the lesson)

Begin the lesson by asking your family what they can do to strengthen your home and family.

Tell them you are going to search for clues hidden by objects around the house that will strengthen your family.  Read them the first clue and let them start looking.  (We didn't want this lesson to get too crazy or out of hand so we talked about being reverent as we did this and it really helped to keep a good spirit as we went around the house.)

Clue #1: "The clue you are looking for can be found near a place where we speak to Heavenly Father morning and night." (Have clue #2 hidden by someone's bed or where you say family prayer.)

 ________________________
PRAYER:  Read D&C 10:5
Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.

Once everyone has found the clue make sure to read the scripture/quote before reading the next clue
You can discuss how this strengthens your home and family and then have someone read the clue #2.  Repeat with each clue.

Clue #2: "The next clue can be found where we spend time together nourishing our bodies and our family relationship" (This will lead to the kitchen table and clue #3)

 ________________________
FAMILY DINNER: Read the quote by Elder Dallin H. Oaks and discuss
The time a family spends together “eating meals at home [is]the strongest predictor of children’s academic achievement and psychological adjustment.” Family mealtimes have also been shown to be a strong bulwark against children’s smoking, drinking, or using drugs. There is inspired wisdom in this advice to parents: what your children really want for dinner is you.
Clue #3: "This clue can be found in a place where we sing Primary songs and listen to other good music" (Have clue #4 by a piano if you have one or by an iPod)

 ________________________
UPLIFTING MUSIC: Read D&C 25:12 and discuss

Clue #4 "The next clue can be found in a place where we listen to the Prophet speak every 6 months."
(Have this clue #5 by your TV or Computer)
 ________________________
FOLLOW THE PROPHET: Read  D&C 1:38 and discuss
Clue #5 "The next clue can be found where we clean our clothes" (Put clue #6 on the washing machine)
 ________________________
KEEPING OUR BODIES PURE: Read this quote from the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet.
Clue #6: "This clue can be found with a special book that we read each day." (Put clue #7 by a Book of Mormon)

 ________________________
READING THE BOOK OF MORMON: Read this quote from the Introduction to the Book of Mormon and discuss.
Clue #7 : "The next clue can be found by a picture of the place where we go to be sealed together as a family" (Place this clue #8 by a picture of the temple)

________________________
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TEMPLE: Read this quote about Temples from lds.org and discuss
Clue #8 : "The final clue can be found near a picture of the One who saved us and gave us the Gospel to live by." (Place this clue by a picture of Jesus)

 ________________________
JESUS CHRIST: Read Ether 12:41 and discuss
And now, I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever. Amen.
Share your testimony and challenge your family to pick one of these things to work on together.

Someone Loves You FHE

For the Family Home Evening lesson for the week of Valentines' day we did a lesson about love.  We watched a short video Love One Another (link posted below) and had the kids look for acts of love that they saw in the video.  My husband and I helped the kids point out the simple acts of love that they saw in the video.  Then we talked about how Jesus loves us and asked the kids how they know that Jesus loves them.

Next I had four pieces of paper with one of our names written on each paper.  I mixed them up and then had each person draw one.  Once we all had our name,  I gave everyone a piece of paper that said "Someone loves you."  The assignment for the week was to do something special for the person on your piece of paper.  Once you did it you could write the person a note on the paper.  We love to sing songs after our lessons and so this time we focused on "love songs" in the Primary and Hymn books.  (links to songs posted below).

Everyone had a fun time with the lesson and it was fun to see what everyone did for each other.

Little C made her daddy lunch one day.  There was a huge pile of spicy mustard on one half and a stack of cheese on the other side, but he loved it!

My husband took my daughter on an ice cream date

I got some my son a couple of books from his book fair wish list.

Little J wrote me a note about why he loves me.   So Precious.

Everyone was very thoughtful and it definitely helped us feel the love during love week!

You don't have to wait until Valentine's day to do this lesson.  This lesson would be great any time of the year!
