About Us

About Janey

I grew up in Portland, Oregon. I moved into my husband, Nic's, city, when I was ten and my family attended church with his family. When I was 17, I got a job at Papa Murphy's, where Nic was working. We got assigned a lot of the late closing shifts which allowed us a lot of opportunities to just talk. I loved how easy he was to talk to and a special friendship began. Our first date is either Cold Stone or Red Robin (depending on who you ask). I was a little hesitant to take any action about our relationship, but luckily for me he was persistent and we became exclusive in February of our senior year of high school. We went to BYU together that Fall, both as Biochemistry majors. Nic left on a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paraguay at the end of that summer. The mail system wasn't great in Paraguay but we still managed to stay in contact. Nic faithfully wrote me every week, and I did my best to write every other week.

I went back to BYU where I kept busy and changed majors about 5 different times! I had the opportunity to do a Art and Design Study Abroad in Italy in Summer 2009. Nic returned from his mission 2 weeks after I returned from Italy (in June). We were married that December in the Portland Oregon Temple.

I graduated in April 2011 in Technology and Engineering Education with an emphasis in Multi Media and a minor in Business Management. Through my major, I fell in love with photography and design.

Nic graduated a year later, and we packed up our bags and headed to Wisconsin for Nic to start medical school. Luckily, I got a job within the first couple of weeks after we arrived, at the medical college. This meant I got to have lunch and see him on campus quite often. Our daughter E was born the end of Nic's first year of medical school, during finals week.

I love cooking, sewing, or doing any craft project. I have not always been the best cook, Nic can attest to this when we first got married. Luckily though with lots of practice my cooking and baking has greatly improved and now I love to cook and bake. I still have a lot of learning to do when it comes to sewing, but I enjoy finding a project and learning how to do it. I love spending time with my daughter and I do photography on the side. It has been fun to meet and get to know Kim, since she has so many of the same interests that I do and we are able to a lot of these things together.

About Kim

I grew up in Rexburg, Idaho.  I met my husband, Jeff, in Kindergarten.  When I was ten my family moved into his best friend's house (which happened to be next door to his house) and he wasn't too happy with that.   After a couple of years we started hanging out with the same friends and eventually became friends.  He asked me to our Junior Prom.  We went to Brigham Young University in Provo where we really became best friends.  After a semester, Jeff left to serve a two year mission in California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while I continued school.  We wrote letters to each other every week while he was gone.

Jeff returned from his mission in February of 2009 and it didn't take long for us to realize that our friendship was blossoming into love. We got married that April in the Rexburg, Idaho Temple.  I worked to help him get through school faster.  I worked at a nursing home training cooks and managing diets and occasionally catering for business meetings.  I worked there until our son J was born.  Then I was lucky enough to be able to stay at home with him while Jeff finished his undergraduate degree.

We moved to Wisconsin in 2012 for Jeff to start medical school.  Our daughter C was born a couple months later.  We love living in Wisconsin (except for the freezing winters) and discovering all of the fun things it has to offer.

I love all things food.  Cooking, baking, watching food shows, reading food blogs, eating- I love it all.  Creating delicious meals for my family is a daily task that I really enjoy!  I also love planning birthday parties and holiday activities for my family.  When I am not in the kitchen you can find me playing games with my son or playing house with my daughter.  I also teach music lessons.  In my spare time I enjoy cross stitching, hanging out with friends and doing crafts, often with Janey.

Kim and Janey

Even though our stories may seem similar, we never actually met until we were both in Wisconsin. It's been fun to see how similar we are but also notice all of the differences we bring to this friendship. We are excited to have you here on our blog and hope you have fun trying all of our ideas.
