$10 USA Door/Wall Hanging

If you are looking for a cheap option for a door hanging, this one is a great option. I spent $7.50 including tax (with coupons), but I imagine if you didn't have coupons you could still keep this under $10.

Supplies:

• USA Letters
• 2 stars
• Thick ribbon
• paint
• glue gun

Paint your letters and stars. I chose to Red letters and white stars since I thought that would stand out well with my ribbon. But you can do your letters differently, depending on your ribbon.

Let them dry completely.

I think the hardest part of this entire project was making the perfect bow. I don't know why but I struggle making bows. I used this tutorial has a guide, but only did 3 loops for each side since I didn't want it to be too overwhelming.

Make a loop about 6" long (but do not cut the ribbon) and fold it behind so that the longer tail of it is in front.. This part will be how you hang the hanging to your door, or your wall.

Glue your bow, letters, and stars to the longer part of the ribbon.

$15 Patriotic Wreath

Janey and I love making wreaths for each holiday.  Normally we make the same one, but this time we decided to each do something different, but similar. I will share my $15 patriotic wreath today and Janey will share her $10 patriotic door-hanging on Thursday.  You can get a lot of use out of these patriotic decorations since there are several patriotic holidays!














Supplies: 

( I had the paint and floss already, but I bought the rest at Joann's with coupons and the holiday sale) 
1 18" grapevine wreath
4" wooden letters (U,S,A)
red,white and blue acrylic paint
paint brushes
4" glitter star (in the patriotic section)
patriotic glitter ball picks (These were in the patriotic and floral sections of the store)
glue gun or embroidery floss (the color of your letters)
1 1/2-2" patriotic ribbon ( I used about 2')

Tutorial:

Start by painting your letters.  I chose to do each letter a different color, but you can just pick one color if you want.  Let the letters dry completely.

Arrange the glitter picks the way you want them in the bottom right quarter of the wreath.  These picks had nice clips at the end so you should be able to weave them through pretty tightly and clip them in.

Untie the ribbon knot on the star and put the ribbon through the center of the top of the wreath.  Tie a new knot and slide the knot into the wreath so it is hidden.

Once the letters are dry, arrange them on the upper left quarter of the wreath.  I had the last line of the A go over the ribbon for the star.  

You can glue the letters on with a glue gun if you like.  I chose to tie mine on with embroidery floss because my door is metal and gets really hot in the summer and melts the glue.

Lastly, cut about 2 feet of your patriotic ribbon (or however long you like) and thread it through the wreath in the center of the back.  I used the star ribbon for a guide to the center of the wreath.

St. Patrick's Day Wreath Tutorial

We are only 12 days away from St. Patrick's Day, so if your door is feeling a little bare we have the perfect wreath for you (and your door).

I think this is one of Kim's and my favorite wreath we have made together. It has a lot going on, but we don't think it's too overwhelming either.

Supplies Needed:

• Foam Wreath (we always get ours from Joann's)
• Glue gun
• Scissors
• A variety of ribbon, get different sizes, colors and textures.
• A thick ribbon (this will go all the way around the wreath.) Below is the ribbon we used. We used all 4 yards of the ribbon.

We chose 7 different ribbons in additional to the solid green ribbon.

Optional:

• A bow to get on the side. 
• We bought ours at 50% clearance already made
• A pot of Gold
• an empty pot (we found at Joann's)
• Coins to go in pot (we found this in the by the yard section at Joann's)

Tutorial: 

We started by wrapping the thick green ribbon all the way around the wreath. Start with a tiny bit of glue at the end so it stays put as you are wrapping. You do not need to keep gluing the ribbon to the wreath. It stays on pretty well if you wrap it tightly.We just put glue on the end of the ribbon to begin and then the end of the ribbon to end it. Wrap the ribbon so that the ribbon just barely overlaps.

The 4 yards of ribbon covers the wreath pretty well but if needed you can have a couple of gaps since that will be covered with the other ribbon.

Once your wreath is covered with the base ribbon you can start adding the more decorative ribbon. We cut strips of the ribbon so that the strip would go around the wreath and overlap enough to add some glue to secure it. We added a couple of glue dots directly to the wreath as well, so that the ribbon wouldn't slide around.

You can overlap the ribbon as much as you want. Or even not have the ribbon overlap at all. I think both ways look nice. We left gaps between the ribbon so you could still see out base ribbon (the thick green ribbon).











Don't worry if the back of your wreath doesn't look good, ours sure doesn't. No one will see it anyway!

There is no organization to adding the ribbons. Try to spread out some of the colors and textures, but you will mostly just eyeball it. Honestly, if you like the ribbon you chose there really isn't a wrong way to add them.

You can chose to be done here, or add some embellishments like we did.

We found this already made bow and thought it would be perfect with our wreath. We added it below our wreath.

We decided it would also be fun to add a pot of gold in the middle of the wreath. We found the little pot at Joann's. The coins were actually attached to a type of ribbon in the cut by the yard section.

We just clipped the coins off of the ribbon.

We stuffed the pot with tissue paper and then glued the coins on top of the issue paper until it looks like the pot is full of gold.

Then hang the pot on the wreath. We used our Happy St Patrick's Day ribbon to hang it up. We just did a basic knot.

Then hang up and you are officially ready to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!
